Another day, another problem. Apparently having too many items in your inventory in Cyberpunk 2077 can lead to damaged or corrupted save files.

Cyberpunk 2077 is riddled with glitches and bugs that ruin the overall gameplay experience. Now imagine powering through all of that just to have your saved data get damaged by simply having too many items. Apparently, that’s a problem that CD Projekt Red has acknowledged.

On GOG.com’s support page is a post addressing “Saved data is damaged and cannot be loaded.”

Unfortunately, if you’re encountering this error, there is no solution to it. The save is damaged and can’t be recovered.

CDPR’s recommendation is to use an older save file to continue playing. But what will really tickle your fancy is the potential cause for the corrupted save data: too many items.

Along with CD Projekt Red’s solution to use an older save file is a recommendation to “try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.” Apparently having too many items can cause your save file size to become bloated and eventually corrupted after reaching a certain size. I’m not sure what that size is, but, man, just when you think it can’t get worse, this happens.

CD Projekt Red says that the save file size limit “might be increased in one of the future patches” but, unfortunately, it won’t fix your already damaged save file. Any corrupted files that exist will remain corrupted and unplayable.

Cyberpunk 2077 was one of this year’s most anticipated games and, much like everything else in 2020, has been a complete letdown. The game performs horribly on last-gen consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) and only marginally better on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 (and even PC). Even if you can manage to play the game without crashing, it’s filled with NPC bugs, gameplay glitches and other immersion-breaking problems.

Sony, Microsoft and most brick-and-mortar retailers are offering refunds for those unhappy with their purchase; however, CD Projekt Red has also promised to continue to work on the game until it runs properly.
