Clash of Clans December update brings exciting Super Troops changes
The Clash of Clans December update features three big changes to Super Troops and will introduce the new Super Potion.
It wasn’t an official sneak peek but Supercell shared today some major changes to Super Troops coming with the December update for Clash of Clans. There are three main changes to the Super Troops and at least one of them should drastically impact attack strategies.
Super Troop changes
The first change is that the Super Troop boost duration will be reduced from 7 days down to 3 days.
"Once you’ve boosted a Super Troop, you’re no longer bound to that Super Troop for an entire week, allowing you to use different ones more frequently!"
Now that you’re no longer forced to stick with a single Super Troop for an entire week, you’ll be free to switch between them more frequently. Naturally, that comes with an added cost so Supercell is actually lowering the costs of upgrading to a Super Troop. The Dark Elixir cost for boosting Super Troops has been reduced down from 50,000 Dark Elixir to 25,000 Dark Elixir for each Super Troop across the board.
Additionally, you’ll also be able to boost up to two Super Troops at a time. This means you can attack with two Super Troops without having to rely on Clan Castle durations.
And finally, you’ll also be able to train a normal version of a Troop alongside its Super Troop version. So for example, you’ll now be able to attack with regular Barbarians and Super Barbarians, or the regular Golbin and Sneaky Goblin, etc.
Obviously, these are some very exciting changes as it completely opens up the game for more attack strategies. Super Troops were first introduced in spring of this year and there are currently nine in the game, with more likely on the way with the December update.
But wait, there’s more!

Not only are we getting Super Troop changes, but we’re also getting a new Magic Item. The Super Potion lets you boost a Super Troop instead of paying the required 25,000 Dark Elixir. Using the Super Potion will boost the Super Troop for three days. You’ll be able to acquire Super Potions as a reward from Clan Games (and maybe the Gold Pass?). They’ll sell to the Trader for 300 gems.
The latest changes come just after Supercell removed the 7-day cooldown for Super Troops in the Autumn update. This allowed players to use the same Super Troop consecutively without having to wait a week and use a different one. This was another move designed to allow players to experiment more freely.
With the 7-day cooldown removal, the boost duration reduced, two Super Troops and normal/Super Troop combinations, we should see some wild attack strategies. The Super Potion is also a wonderful new addition for those who may not have the Dark Elixir to spend.
This is only the first “sneak peek” for the Clash of Clans December update but it’s definitely off to a good start. Supercell promises to reveal more about the December update in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
