NBA 2K21: LeBron James is still king with game-best 98 overall rating
After winning his 4th NBA Finals MVP, LeBron James will be rated as the best player in NBA 2K21 with a 98 overall rating.
Remember in December of last year, before COVID-19 interrupted the NBA season, when I asked if LeBron James should still be rated as the best player in the NBA 2K franchise? Well, after winning his fourth championship ring along with his fourth NBA Finals MVP, I sure do look silly.
When NBA 2K21’s roster is updated for next-gen consoles, James will be rated as the best player in the game with a 98 overall. And it’s hard to argue that he doesn’t deserve it.
The Los Angeles Lakers claimed its 17th team championship with a series win over the Miami Heat and LeBron James played a big part in it. The King averaged 29.8 points-per-game during the Finals. In Game 5, he put up 40 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Even at 35-years-old, LeBron James shows no signs of slowing.

2K also released the ratings for the rest of the Lakers championship starting squad: Anthony Davis (96), Danny Green (76), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (76) and Alex Caruso (75).
It was definitely a weird season for the NBA which saw its season get cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a brief pause in March, the 2019-20 season picked up play in July in “the bubble” at Walt Disney World.
The shakeup in the season has caused some delays in the roster updates for NBA 2K21 which released before the Finals were actually played. Because of that, Visual Concepts couldn’t actually release updated rosters so we’ve been playing with old rosters and ratings.
With the next-gen release coming soon, 2K has started to share the updated ratings for players already in the league. The changes have been made based on the recent postseason play.
Leading up to NBA 2K21’s launch on PS5 on November 12 and Xbox Series X on November 10, 2K will continue to share ratings for players. When NBA 2K21 launches on next-gen consoles, the ratings will also go live on current-gen systems as well. We still don’t know how the NBA free agency or the draft will play out, so the rosters won’t totally be updated, however.
