PUBG Esports: NA Charity Showdown, Online Pro League details
By Ty Brody
PUBG Esports announced its plan to resume the 2020 schedule underneath a new online structure, known as the PUBG Continental Series. The new format will begin with the NA Charity Showdown next month.
Following the announcement of the PUBG Continental Series, additional details regarding the first event of the PCS format have surfaced. The North America Charity Showdown will be the first PCS event and will feature the eight teams who had qualified for PGS: Berlin, prior to its cancellation.
The PCS NA Charity Showdown has extended eight direct invites to the teams who had already qualified for PGS: Berlin, however, the remaining eight vacant spots will be filled by a series of qualifying events “over the coming weeks”. Once the additional eight teams have qualified for the Charity Showdown, they’ll meet the eight teams who have been anxiously waiting since PGS qualifications ended in February.
These sixteen teams will then face off at the NA Charity Showdown on May 21-24 for their piece of the $200,000 USD prize pool. ($100,000 for charity and $100,000 for teams).
Perhaps even more exciting, is the announcement of a 24-team Online Pro League deriving from the PCS NA Charity Showdown standings. Meaning, that the top twenty-four teams will secure their place within an online pro league following the PCS event. More information on the pro league and a weekly semi-pro competition will be provided in the coming weeks.
PUBG Esports has made some increasingly exciting announcements recently, starting with their reveal of the PUBG Continental Series. In North America, the esports community surrounding PUBG has been starving to compete for something, while Europe has GLL’s ‘Toby Tryhard Thursday’ and the upcoming DreamHack PUBG Showdown. It makes an announcement such as this one, even more exciting.

More good news, for the North American players at least, is that the PUBG Continental Series Americas region will no longer include LATAM and OCE players. Previously, the combination of these three regions meant that players were forced to play against opponents while experiencing high-ping. More details regarding LATAM events and the addition of OCE into the Asia Pacific Region will be shared in the future.
The biggest takeaways from this announcement are the qualification format for the first PUBG Continental Series: NA Charity Showdown, and a North American Online Pro League to look forward to following this event.
