Hogwarts Legacy has many side quests and adventures to partake on outside of the main story. After a main quest line which will take you about 25-30 hours or so, opening chests and capturing field guide pages will soak up a large portion of your time. One of these particular chests is quite perplexing to open, so we’ll walk you through it.

A certain type of chest in Hogwarts Legacy is the eyeball chest. As the name states, it’s a giant treasure chest with an eyeball in the front of it. This eyeball tracks the movement around it, and the chest locks if anyone gets too close. If you try to walk up to it as you would any other chest in the game, you do not even get an interact prompt. These chests are available the second you pop into Hogwarts Academy, so the inability to open them gets confusing. That’s where we come in.

You’ll need to progress a bit in the main story and hit the “Secrets of the Restricted Section” quest first. Here, Sebastian gives you the Disillusionment spell allowing you to become invisible and sneak past the librarian. Of course, there are many other uses for this spell which the game does not spell out. One of them, of course, is the eye ball chests.

Once you have this spell, casting it immediately makes you invisible to anyone or any enemies around you. This occurs even if you are right next to them. When you are near an eyeball chest, simply pop the spell and walk slowly up to it. This will trick the eyeball into not seeing you and allow you to gain the treasure inside. All of the chests provide the same reward, and that is 500 gold pieces. That’s a pretty giant haul considering the prices of gear in the game and that normal chests give a max of usually around 200 gold or so, most of the time less.

Another use for the disillusionment spell will also earn you an achievement/trophy in the game. Once you cast it, sneak up on an enemy from behind. This will let you cast the Petrificus Totalus spell. If you do this to 50 different enemies, you get a trophy. We hope this guide helps, and let us know how far you’ve gotten in Hogwarts Legacy below. What house did you choose?
