Mario Kart 8 has been a staple on the Nintendo Switch for almost its entire existence. It has become so popular that Nintendo has even created Mario Kart 8 Nintendo Switch bundles that come with both the console and the game. It is clear that Nintendo doesn’t want Mario Kart 8 to die down until Mario Kart 9 is released. The way Nintendo has gone about trying to prevent the game from plummeting is by releasing six waves of a Booster Course Pass.

The Booster Course Pass features 6 waves, with each wave consisting of 8 remastered courses. This means that by the conclusion of all six waves being released, Mario Kart 8 will have added a total of 48 remastered courses from the entirety of the Mario Kart franchise. If you are looking to join the fun and get each Wave as they are released, you can do so fairly easily. All you have to do is make sure you have a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. You can also access the Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass via the Deluxe Edition of the game. Unfortunately, you can’t purchase each wave individually.

The first Booster Course Pass was released on March 18, 2022. Since then, two additional Booster Course Passes have been released throughout 2022. Now, the time has come for the release of Booster Course Pass Wave 4. The Booster Course Pass Wave 4 was announced at the most recent Nintendo Direct Nintendo held on February 8.

The Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass Wave 4 will bring 8 more courses into the game. However, Wave 4 will be highlighted with an all-new course and familiar Nintendo character making their way back into the Mario Kart franchise.

The new course is Yoshi’s Island. From the tiny bit of the course we have seen in the Wave 4 announcement trailer, Yoshi’s Island is set to take you through the air and underwater.

The familiar face returning to the franchise is none other than Birdo. Birdo first made an appearance in the Mario Kart franchise in Mario Kart: Double Dash back in 2003 on Gamecube. 20 years later, Birdo is set to make a return to the races. This won’t be the last time that new characters will make their way into Mario Kart 8. Nintendo has already confirmed there will be additions of new characters in the final 2 Booster Course Pass Waves.

There is no official word as to the exact date to expect Wave 4 to be released. However, we do know that it is scheduled to be released at some point during Spring 2023. With two more Booster Course Pass Waves slated to be released by the end of 2023, who knows what else Nintendo has in store for us?
