Elden Ring is filled with all sorts of secrets and surprises. If you are playing Elden Ring for the very first time, you should expect the unexpected because you never know what is going to be thrown your way. Even if you are on your second or third playthrough, there are always things that you can do to perfect your game.

One of the hardest challenges you’ll come across in The Lands Between are, of course, bosses. You may get lucky and defeat them on your first attempt, but it may take you two, three, or even ten attempts. Whatever the case may be, you should never become discouraged as these bosses are no joke and do become progressively more and more difficult.

The first major boss that you will most likely cross paths with is Margit, The Fell Omen. Margit is going to put a lot of your skills that you have learned in the early parts of Elden Ring to the test. Mostly, your dodging and attack skills. If you’re struggling to defeat Margit, The Fell Omen, here’s some helpful tips.

Margit, The Fell Omen’s attacking habits

Margit is going to be able to strike you from close range and from a distance. From close range, Margit will use a combo strikes with his staff. Three-hit combo attacks are going to be one of the ways that Margit is able to strike you quickly and efficiently. He also has a two-handed attack that strikes much harder.

Margit, The Fell Omen, also has magic daggers that he will throw your way as one of his ranged attacks. You should be able to simply dodge roll them.

Margit is a very agile boss, so you can expect seeing a mix of both his attacks being close and far to him and many points in the battle. When Margit, The Fell Omen gets to half health, the fun really begins. Margit will take out his giant hammer and while his patterns still are somewhat similar to his first phase, the hammer in general is a bit intimidating.

Easiest way to defeat Margit, The Fell Omen

Like most bosses that you encounter in Elden Ring, patience is going to play a major part in every battle. There is no need to rush any boss fight including Margit, The Fell Omen. Just because this is going to be one of your first true tests that are thrown your way, doesn’t mean you should try to rush through it as quickly as you can. There is no bonus for defeating bosses the fastest.

Take time out to study their attack patterns. We already talked about what Margit’s attack habits were like, but sometimes it is easier to actually see it for yourself rather than reading it. Take the early portions of the fight to study his habits up close and personal. After you see the way he attacks, you can time your attacks with Margit’s. The reason I bring this up is because the best time you are going to be able to damage to Margit is when he is done attacking.

After Margit is done attacking move in and strike him with 2-3 hits and then you can move out of the way to avoid any further attacks he throws your way. Since this is a fairly early boss fight that you will encounter, you may not have a lot of stamina. This is why I would suggest dodging instead of trying to block each one of his attacks. If you are able to attack him 2-3 times after he finishes swinging and then dodge any rebuttal attacks, you will have found a really successful system. From here it is just a rinse and repeat for the rest of the battle.

If he throws magic daggers at you, just avoid them by dodging. You don’t have to get too fancy for this fight. Even during phase two and his patterns are fairly similar, you shouldn’t change up your strategy up too much.

Follow this strategy of using your patience, attacking when he is finished attacking, and dodging out of the way for any rebuttal attacks he throws at you is going to be the perfect recipe for success. This should help you take down Margit, The Fell Omen fairly easy and at a consistent pace. The last thing you want to do is just go into this fight without a gameplan. Don’t try to overextend your attacks by trying to hit him 5-6 times after he attacks you. You simply won’t have the time to do that, and he will get his hits on you with ease. Trust me when I say this, Margit hits harder than you do so it is better to avoid getting hit at all costs and part of that starts with patience.

After you defeat Margit, The Fell Omen you can go over to his body and claim the drops that he leaves for you. The feeling of defeating him is a great one and is probably a better feeling than the rewards you get for defeating him, but this is only the beginning of one of the many bosses you will face off against in Elden Ring and it is good to get one of the first major ones off of your chest.
