Flasks may be one of the most important items that there are in the Elden Ring world. There are two main Flasks that are used and both of them are given to you as soon as you begin the game and start the tutorial. These Flasks are the Flask of Crimson Tears and the Flask of Cerulean Tears.

Flask of Crimson Tears restores HP while the Flask of Cerulean Tears restores FP.  Both HP and FP are critical to have a sustainable amount of if you are trying to survive and compete with some of the best creatures Elden Ring has to offer.

Both Flasks are going to be crucial to your gameplay and thus why it is a good reason to upgrade them as soon as possible. Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears are going to be the two main items that help you upgrade both your Flasks. Golden Seeds are going to help you upgrade the number of Flasks that you will receive, while Sacred Tears are going to upgrade how effective each Flask use is.

At first, it only takes one Golden Seed to upgrade your Flasks, but as time goes on, more and more Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears are required for the upgrade. This can eventually get harder and harder to upgrade because these items are not the easiest items to find in the game.

  • You need 1 Seed for upgrades increasing to 6 total Flasks.
  • You need 2 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 8 total Flasks.
  • You need 3 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 10 total Flasks.
  • You need 4 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 12 total Flasks.
  • You need 5 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 14 total Flasks.

If you are looking to upgrade both your Flask of Crimson Tears and Flask of Cerulean Tears, you will need a total of 30 Golden Seeds just to get the Flask of Crimson Tears to max level. That is a massive number of Golden Seeds, but these upgrades can be crucial and can be the difference of you defeating some of the toughest bosses Elden Ring has to offer. You may want to upgrade both of them at a fairly even pace, this way each Flask is increasingly becoming better as time goes on and not all your upgrades are going into one.

It is going to take a lot of exploring and collecting if reach max level on both Flasks is your main goal. Regardless of whether or not you reach max level with your Flasks, it is best to upgrade them as much as possible as you progress through the video game. At the start of Elden Ring when you are choosing which Keepsake you would like to start with, Golden Seeds are an option to choose one of your Keepsakes if you are looking to get a head start on the upgrading portion of the game. Since they are so hard to find it may be something you want to think about, but who knows how you want to choose your Keepsake based on your gameplay.

Sacred Tears are also not an easy to collect, although you can normally find them churches scattered throughout the map. Not all churches have one, but if you find a church with the statue of Marika, there is a very good chance that there will be a Sacred Tear sitting at the bottom of the statue. Do not sleep on exploring for some of these. These Scared Tears are going to make sure that every time you use a Flask, the amount of HP or FP that it restores will be greater. Just like HP, your Focus Points are nearly just as important as your Health Points.

There is also a third Flask that is in Elden Ring called the Flask of Wondrous Physick. This Flask is a little bit different than the two that you start out with. If you Travel to the Third Church of Marika which is just north of Waypoint Ruins, you will find the Flask of Wondrous Physick. This Flask requires Crystal Tears in order to get specific effects, but the Flask of Wondrous Physick can activate an effect that can even prevent you from losing Runes even when you die. It is a cool concept, but not nearly as important and the Flask of Crimson Tears or the Flask of Cerulean Tears.

The Flask of Wondrous Physick offers a ton of different types of Tears that you are able to craft in order to get many different effects from the Flask of Wondrous Physick. Some of the effects that are available to you with this Flask can come in handy on many different occasions, so it may be worth it to travel down to the Third Church of Marika and pick up this handy Flask as well.
