Supercell pushed live an update for Clash Royale today which fixed a migration bug and helped balance some of the newly introduced Champions.

The Clash Royale Champions update went live last month. It featured the new King Level 14 which contained the new Champions card rarity that so far consists of just the Archer Queen, Skeleton King and Golden Knight. What makes these new Champions special is that they each have a unique ability that can be activated when they are present in the battle. With some real world data collected from the community of players, it seems Supercell has adjusted some of their balance.

The Archer Queen was found to be a little too powerful thanks to her Cloaking Cape which activates stealth mode and allows her to shoot arrows faster. To lower her damage and make her easier to defend against, Supercell has increased her ability cooldown from 11 seconds to 15 seconds. Additionally, her ability duration has been reduced from 3.5 seconds to 3 seconds.

On the flip side, the Skeleton King was found to be too weak. The King of the Undead hasn’t really found a spot in decks, so Supercell has increased his damage and area of attack.

His damage has been increased by 14% while his area of damage has been increased by a whopping 30%. He’s also now immune to push back, except from the log. With these increases, the Skeleton King will now one-shot goblins, making him effective against swarm troops and allowing him to collect souls quicker.

There were no balance changes made to the Golden Knight.

I’m not yet King level 14 so I haven’t had a ton of experience playing with these new Champions. However, I have played against them and I agree that the Archer Queen was brutally strong. Additionally, the increase in card levels has also made certain troops, like the Mega Knight, a pain to deal with. So far, these Champion adjustments are the only balance changes since the last major update.

As for the migration bug, some players received more Experience Points and Star Points than they were entitled to, causing some of the lower-level players to be promoted directly to level 14. This probably explains why I, and possibly you, was facing some much high level cards. If you were one of the players affected by this, you should receive an in-game message and any extra progress will be removed.

Any extra Experience or Star Points will be removed and if you were incorrectly promoted to Level 14, you will be downgraded to your true level. If you unlocked any Champions, you will get to keep them — which is nice — but you won’t be able to play with them until you reach Level 14.
