Microsoft’s strong second half of the year continues this month with multiple new releases coming to Xbox and PC via Xbox Game Pass. First up is Twelve Minutes, which arrives this week on August 19.

Twelve Minutes is easily one of the most interesting games to come to Game Pass not just this month, but this year. It’s an interactive thriller about a man trapped in a time loop. I really don’t think that does the game justice, so here’s a better description:

"You take the role of the husband, on what should be a romantic evening with your wife. The night turns into a nightmare when a police detective breaks into your home, accuses your wife of murder and beats you to death."

Sounds a little more intense right? So as you relive the same nightmare scenario over and over again, you’ll have prior knowledge of what’s to come and hopefully be able to change the outcome and break the loop.

Beyond the intriguing synopsis, Twelve Minutes boasts an incredible cast of voice actors that includes James McAvoy (Split, Glass), Daisy (Star Wars) Ridley and Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse). Normally the cast of a game isn’t a huge highlight but I have a feeling the character nuance in Twelve Minutes will play a big part in breaking the loop.

You can see just based on the trailer how much of an impact the voice acting has on the intensity of Twelve Minutes, which has been described as “the closest to playing a game directed by Stanley Kubrick.” This isn’t just a game, it is an entire experience, and I’m definitely here for it.

Twelve Minutes is one of 18 games hitting Xbox Game Pass on Day One this year alone. Last month, we got The Ascent and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

It’s not even the only major Xbox Game Pass title coming this month. We’ve also got Humankind (available today on PC) and Psychonauts 2 coming this month. Twelve Minutes will be available on August 19 via Xbox Game Pass for Xbox, PC, and Cloud.
