Microsoft had an amazing E3 showcase, highlighting a ton of games coming to Xbox platforms in the near and distant future. As we’ve pointed out, a total of 41 games were shown for Xbox Game Pass, 18 of which are coming to the subscription service this year alone.

While it was a slow start for Xbox to begin the year, things are really set to pick up in the second half of 2021. And it begins in July. Although the number of new game releases is fairly light, Xbox Series X has a few games worth keeping your eye on.

Cris Tales is one of those games. Also coming to PS5, Cris Tales is an indie love letter to classic JRPGs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy V as well as modern classics like Bravely Default and Persona 5. Beautiful 2D animations, strategic turn-based combat and an interesting time-manipulating mechanic that allows you to see the past, interact in the present and witness how it affects the future, make this one of my most anticipated games for July.

The Ascent is another game I’m particular excited for. An Xbox exclusive (and PC), The Ascent takes us to a futuristic dystopian world controlled by a powerful megacorporation called The Ascent Group. But when the corporation mysterious collapses, the world descends into a chaotic free-for-all with districts, syndicates and rival corporations all vying for control. In this twin-stick action-shooter, you’ll go solo or team up with friends to try and maintain order and uncover the mystery. The Ascent launches on July 29 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass.

And although this one won’t be for everyone, Microsoft Flight Simulator takes off on July 27. Normally this game is reserved for PC, but now it’s coming to console as well. I’m not normally a simulator type of guy, but this one actually piqued my interest. The vistas and landscapes as you fly across the globe look incredible. They are truly some breathtaking views to take in while managing the depth and complexity of actually flying a plane.
