Tom Clancy’s The Division has been a huge hit for Ubisoft. It wasn’t the smoothest ride, but Ubisoft listened to the community along the way and it has paid off with tremendous success with Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.

While Ubisoft previously announced plans to continue to support The Division 2 with another expansion, the company has even bigger plans for the franchise as a whole. Today, Ubisoft provided an update for the franchise, announcing a new game, plans for a mobile game, and more.

The Division Heartland was the highlight of the update. We don’t know much about the game other than it will provide a “new perspective on the universe in a new setting.” Does that mean we won’t be playing as Division agents? Perhaps it will be a survival game in which you simply play as a regular citizen trying to survive the pandemic. Or dare I say, a battle royale game…?

The Division Heartland is going to be free-to-play and is in development at Ubisoft Red Storm studio, which has worked on Tom Clancy games since 1997 — including most recently The Division 2. It is slated to release in 2021-22 on PC, consoles and cloud gaming services. It appears to be somewhat far along in development as there is already a signup page for early test phases.

As for the rest of Ubisoft’s plans for the franchise, well, we know there is a new expansion coming for The Division 2. This is being led by Ubisoft Massive with support from Ubisoft Bucharest. Again, it’s too early for specific details, but we know it will introduce a new game mode for the franchise and “new methods for leveling your agents with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability.”

Another surprising announcement was the development of a Division mobile game. Again, the details are minimal on this one, but bringing the franchise to a wider audience seems to be the goal here.

There’s also The Division movie that’s in development with Netflix. This will be inspired by the events in the original game and will star Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal. Rawson Marshall Thurber is on board as director.

And finally, if games and movies aren’t your things, a new original novel is on the way. This new story is set after the events of The Division 2 and “explores how the Outbreak affects different regions of the United States as agents fight to secure supply routes.”

Basically, if you’re a fan of The Division franchise, there’s a lot to be excited about. Personally, I’m most looking forward to what this free-to-play game could be. What are your thoughts?
