The Division 2’s recent Title Update 12 was supposed to be the last major Title Update for Ubisoft’s online action role-playing game. However, it appears that will no longer be the case and Ubisoft will continue developing additional content for the game.

In a post on the game’s official subreddit, Ubisoft broke the exciting news:

"Today, we are thrilled to confirm that there will be additional content for The Division 2 released later this year! It is your continuous passion and support which enables us to continue to build upon The Division 2 experience, and we cannot thank you enough for that."

Development of this new content is still in the “early stages” but Ubisoft is aiming to release it later this year. And while it’s far too early for details or specifics, Ubisoft promises to share more information “as soon as we can.”

While Ubisoft might share some information regarding this new content via a blog write-up, I don’t think we’ll see any actual gameplay footage of the expansion for quite a while. Usually, the gameplay reveal for major expansions like this are saved for big events, like E3, but with the COVID-19 pandemic still persisting, it’s looking like another all-digital event is in store this summer.

Last year, Ubisoft held an E3-style showcase which served as the equivalent of their annual E3 conference, so I expect they’ll do the same again this summer. If that’s the case, then maybe we’ll see our first footage of this additional content in June or July.

Either way, it’s incredibly exciting that Ubisoft will continue to support The Division 2 nearly two years after its March 2019 release. A sequel to 2016’s title, The Division 2 took the action from New York City to Washington D.C. and picked up the story seven months after the Green Poison outbreak.

Ubisoft had a robust plan for post-launch support for The Division 2, which included an entire year of free downloadable content. This spanned the release of three “Episodes” that expanded the action well-beyond the initial area of Washington D.C. and even took Agents back to New York City as they were sent to the ruins of Coney Island.

The post-launch support continued with Warlords of New York, a paid expansion that, again, saw Agents return to New York as the shocking story twists and turns continued. Warlords of New York released in March 2020 but Ubisoft has continued to add features and refine the gameplay experience through Title Updates.

In December 2020, Ubisoft released Title Update 12, which was supposed to be the final major title update. It added the Optimization Station, Global Event shop, Challenges and improvements to The Summit, new gear and a new Season with fresh objectives and manhunt targets to track.

I just recently returned to The Division 2 earlier this month after being away from the game for years. It’s changed quite a bit from when I first played it at launch and while it’s very intimidating going back with all of the changes, I’m having a ton of fun. The missions remain fun, the hunt for gear isn’t a boring grind — everything just seems like it’s super player-friendly.

I actually didn’t know Title Update 12 was supposed to be the last major update for The Division 2 but with how much fun I’m having with the game in my return, I’m glad I have more to look forward to this year.
