May’s free PS Plus game sets the stage for Battlefield 6 reveal
EA previously teased that the reveal of the new Battlefield game will be coming soon and perhaps that has something to do with one of the three games PlayStation Plus subscribers will be getting next month. With the highly anticipated Battlefield (6?) coming later this year, Sony and EA are giving gamers a chance to possibly familiarize themselves with the blockbuster shooter series by giving away the latest game in the franchise.
Battlefield V will be free for PS Plus subscribers next month. Although BFV was only released on PlayStation 4, you’ll still be able to play the game on PS5.
Battlefield V was originally released in 2018 and returned to the series roots in a “never-before-seen portrayal of World War II.” It offered Battlefield’s signature all-out warfare experience through modes like Grand Operations and the cooperative Combined Arms. It also featured single-player War Stories.
I’m never quite sure how Sony determines its PS Plus lineup, but the inclusion of Battlefield V seems pretty obvious. EA likely came to them for a deal ahead of Battlefield 6. Does this mean we can expect some sort of exclusivity deal between PlayStation and EA for the new Battlefield? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Other games that will be free for PS Plus members in May include Wreckfest: Drive Hard, Die Last for PlayStation 5 and Stranded Deep for PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, the PS Plus offering only extends to the PS5 version of Wreckfest, and not the PS4 version. As the name of the game suggests, Wreckfest is basically full-on contact racing, complete with vintage cars, customization challenge modes and multiplayer.
Stranded Deep is a survival game that drops you in the middle of the Pacific Ocean following a mysterious plane crash. Alone in the middle of the ocean, you’ll have to fight for survival, keeping your hunger and thirst at bay by exploring underwater and nearby land when you find it.
All three of these games will be free for PS Plus subscribers starting on May 4. As a reminder, you have until May 3 to download April’s free PlayStation Plus games.
