New Xbox Series X games for April 2021: Outriders, MLB The Show 21 and more
Like PlayStation, it’s been a pretty slow start to the year for Xbox. Microsoft’s newest console, the Xbox Series X, is still lacking a flagship title after the delay of Halo Infinite and while there have been some games to help fill the void, the pickings have been slim.
Things will slightly pick up in April with the release of several high-profile titles. Most notable is the release of Outriders, People Can Fly’s cooperative shooter RPG. Outriders has the feel of a “games as a service” title but the entire game is actually playable from start to finish at launch. Sure, there will be DLC post-launch (if the game is successful), but it’s not like Marvel’s Avengers, The Division, and Destiny where you’re waiting months on end for new content and events. Perhaps the most exciting thing about Outriders on Xbox Series X is that it will be free for those who have Xbox Game Pass.
Another big-named franchise coming to Xbox Series X in April is MLB The Show 21. That’s right, Sony’s signature Major League Baseball sim is making its debut on Xbox. MLB The Show has always been a PlayStation exclusive, but Sony, Sony San Diego, MLB and MLB Players Association agreed to a multiyear extension for the continuation of the franchise with the caveat that future installments will release on additional console platforms beyond PlayStation. So it’s now available on Xbox consoles.

MLB The Show 21 will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, but the next-gen console will be getting some extra love. On Xbox Series X|S, players will be able to create a ballpark and experience narrative video podcasts throughout the Road to the Show.

There’s not a whole lot coming to Xbox Series X next month, but Outriders and MLB The Show 21 are definitely my highlights.
