Marvel’s Avengers is trying to win me back by announcing Kate Bishop’s arrival on December 8th. She is bringing a lot with her but will it be enough?

Yesterday, November 19th, Marvel Entertainment posted a new Avenger’s War Table on their YouTube page, revealing many things about the next playable character in Marvel’s Avengers, Kate Bishop.

The reveal showcased that, just like I hoped, my preferred Hawkeye (sorry, Clint) has an amazing moveset involving her teleporting around the way AIM’s Scientist Supreme normally can in the comics. Combine her bamfing around with her archery skills equals a character with possibly the most mobility in the game so far. She might even beat out Captain America when it comes to me putting him down as a “Ranger” archetype in my article comparing each player to their traditional RPG class.

Marvel also showcased teasers for her story mission which looks like someone is finally looking for Nick Fury. Along the way, they teased an awesome new villain. Now, while I have lamented the lack of big villains in this game, this is a generic villain I can get behind. When an Iron Man armor shows up with a massive Captain America type shield AND a hammer spewing lighting anywhere, I sit up straight. I don’t care who that is, I just want to fight it. I mean, technically they say he’s the “Super Adaptoid” but that is absolutely not and it’s okay.

Another awesome thing is that she’s voiced by Ashly Burch. Ashly Burch does some of my favorite vocal work in video games so seeing her voice a character I love is a super bonus.

Now, while this video has teased a lot of cool things — to the point where I haven’t even talked about the fact that they talk about time-traveling and that they actually tease evil alternate Hulk “The Maestro” — there is one major problem I want to address.

I’m a cosmetics guy. I will drop a ton on microtransaction to dress up characters. Even in Smash Bros., a game I rarely touch, I have all available Mii Costumes just because customizing characters is absolutely my jam. And while Kate Bishop gets shown to have a lot of costumes out the gate, some of these are, well, booboo. For real.

Look at this costume. I mean, what is this. What is this costume? She looks like the girl from Lazy Town got merged with one of the creatures from the movie 13 Ghosts. What are you?

Her other costumes aren’t great either. Like, a bunch of different hoodies too ostentatious for even Billie Eilish and a bunch of weird takes on modern clothes that scream, “How do you do fellow kids.” It doesn’t give me a lot of hope for good cosmetics any time soon but that’s what you get when you let Square Enix dress all the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts characters and then suddenly expect them to dress real people.

Barring any delays, Kate Bishop will join the battle in Marvel’s Avengers on December 8. Is it enough to save the game?
