PS5: Where to buy a PlayStation 5 on launch day
Multiple retailers will be selling PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles at launch so if you missed out on an early pre-order, hope is not lost.
The PlayStation 5 launch is upon us. At midnight, on November 12, the PS5 will officially hit store shelves. Well, digital shelves as most retailers are opting only to sell them online due to coronavirus.
In any case, if you missed out on the initial batch of pre-orders, there’s still hope for you to snag Sony’s next-gen console on launch day. Just about all the major retailers will be selling PS5s online on launch day, but you figure demand to be high, so don’t expect them to last long. If you’re looking for a PS5 today, here are your best options:
GameStop
The world’s largest video game retailer has confirmed they will have “limited” PlayStation 5 console bundles available on their website at launch. The bundles will likely go live at midnight tonight. GameStop didn’t say exactly what will be included in these bundles or how much they’ll cost, so it’ll be a surprise for everyone.
Walmart
Walmart will also have PlayStation 5 consoles on November 12. They’ll only be available online but rather than putting them all out at once, Walmart will be releasing their stock in waves. You’ll have four chances to log onto Walmart’s website throughout the day in hopes of securing a PS5:
- 12pm ET
- 3pm ET
- 6pm ET
- 9pm ET
Target
Target initially said they’ll have PlayStation 5 consoles available on November 12 in-store, but they later clarified that in-store really meant for pickup if you had already bought one online. On launch day, they will be selling PS5s online and you can choose to have it shipped to your house or to your local Target for in-store or curbside pickup.
Best Buy
Best Buy did not say whether or not they’ll have the PS5 available online on launch day. However, they did promise to have a limited amount available on Black Friday. The retailer also confirmed that no PS5 consoles will be sold in stores throughout the entire holiday season so if you plan to buy one from Best Buy, it’ll have to be online.
Amazon
Amazon does what it wants. In fact, just a few hours before the Xbox Series X launched, they sent out emails to customers warning that their pre-order might be delayed until December. The online retail giant hasn’t said whether it’ll have launch day stock. In fact, the PlayStation 5 product page simply says: “We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”
