Walmart is giving consumers four chances to buy a PlayStation 5 on launch day, but only online. Here are the times the PS5 will be available.

With PlayStation 5 pre-orders sold out just about everywhere, the last hope for many is to get a PS5 on launch day. Walmart has confirmed that it will have PlayStation 5 consoles available for purchase on November 12, but like other retailers, it will only be available online.

Walmart is doing things a little differently though, setting aside four different time slots when PS5 consoles will become available. Rather than making the console available to purchase at once and having them sell out immediately, Walmart is giving people four chances to buy a PS5 throughout the day.

According to the retailer, PS5 consoles will go on sale on Walmart.com at 12 p.m. ET, 3 p.m.ET, 6 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET. Of course, this doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to buy a PS5 on launch day as there will be millions of others refreshing the website at the same time.

Walmart joins a string of other retailers who will have PlayStation 5 consoles available for purchase on launch day, including Target, Best Buy, Amazon and GameStop. To avoid massive crowds from gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic, Sony has already confirmed that no PlayStation 5 consoles will be sold in stores, so your only chance to buy one on launch day is online.

"No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online."

I honestly don’t mind consoles only being sold online but one of the problems with the pre-orders was that no one knew exactly when they were going to become available. Some retailers jumped the gun and made it available a day earlier than expected which prompted other retailers to follow. This led to frustrating chaos as consumers scrambled to find a console.

Assuming everyone plays by the same rules, things will hopefully be smoother with every retailer holding off until November 12. There’s still the issue with timing but at least Walmart has let us know the exact windows of availability.

As a reminder, there are two types of PlayStation 5 consoles available for purchase, although it’s unclear if retailers will be carrying both online at launch day. There’s the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive available for $499, and then the PS5 Digital Edition that only supports digital games for $399. Surprisingly, it seemed like most people sought the Digital Edition when preorders first went live, but ultimately both models sold out quickly.
