Madden 21’s Week 1 update, featuring the accurate 53-man rosters, will be released next week.

It’s cut day in the NFL! Today, at 4:00 p.m. ET, was the official deadline for teams to finalize their 53-man roster for Week 1 of the 2020-21 NFL season. Of course, with Madden 21‘s release coming in August, it means team rosters in the game are outdated. But they will be updated soon.

According to EA Sports’ Dustin Smith, head Madden ratings adjuster, the 53-man roster update for Madden 21 will be released “next week.”

Unfortunately, he did not provide a specific date, but one would assume — based on previous years — that the update will arrive by the time the NFL season kicks off on Thursday night. The first game of the season is the Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. on September 10. That gives the team about five days to get all the moves done. It’s certainly no easy task, but they typically get it out in time.

The Week 1 roster update for Madden 20 last year went live just a few hours before the first game kicked off. We can probably expect the same this year with Madden 21.

While Madden 21 has received some smaller roster updates since its release in August, next week’s update, according to Smith, “will have everything.” This means all of the roster moves made not only today but the previous few days as well should be included. And there were definitely a lot of them.

Just over the past few days, including today, there were some notable releases. The Miami Dolphins released Josh Rosen after they were unable to find a trade partner. The Washington Football team parted ways with veteran running back Adrian Peterson. The Dallas Cowboys cut safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. The list of surprising moves goes on.

All of these moves should be reflected in the Week 1 roster update for Madden 21. Last year’s Week 1 update featured over 1,500 changes, and we can probably expect the same number this time. Unfortunately, if you’ve already started a franchise in Madden 21, you’ll have to restart it if you want the latest accurate rosters.

It’s worth mentioning that EA also has a Title Update planned to release next week. This will be separate from the roster update but is also expected to arrive on September 10. This will include a number of gameplay adjustments and bug fixes. Meanwhile, the first update dedicated to improving Franchise mode is slated to arrive in November.
