Dr Disrespect issues first statement since permanent Twitch ban and the mystery continues
It appears that not even Dr Disrespect knows why he’s been banned from Twitch.
On Friday, news broke that Dr Disrespect was permanently banned from Twitch, sending shock waves through the video game streaming community. The move was swift with Dr Disrespect’s channel deactivated and refunds sent to all of his Twitch subs.
Outside of a generic PR statement, Twitch offered no explanation for the ban. For over 24 hours, Dr Disrespect offered no statement.
That changed this evening when Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Guy Beahm, issued his first public statement since being banned. Unfortunately, it seems not even he knows why he was banned. According to Dr Disrespect, Twitch has not told him the specific reason for the ban.
Dr Disrespect’s statement that Twitch hasn’t notified him seems to invite even more questions surrounding this mysterious ordeal. Especially since notable esports reporter Rod Breslau claimed that he was told “from credible sources the reason.”
“However due to the importance and sensitivity around the subject I have refrained from going on it,” Breslau stated. “I don’t feel comfortable with it currently.”
I find it hard to believe that Breslau would know the reason and not Dr Disrespect himself. Either way, this is the biggest mystery in the gaming industry right now and Dr Disrespect’s statement offers no context or clarity.

This isn’t the first time Dr Disrespect has been banned from the streaming platform. In 2019, Twitch banned him for two weeks when he was caught streaming inside of a bathroom at the Los Angeles Convention Center during E3. But he returned soon after and earlier this year, Twitch had signed him two a multiyear streaming deal. That makes this move by Twitch even more confusing.
Twitch has recently cracked down on high-profile streamers accused of sexual abuse and harassment but Dr Disrespect’s banning doesn’t appear to be related to this. Or maybe it is and that’s why Breslau feels it’s not his place to reveal the reason. Perhaps Breslau talked to someone inside of Twitch and not Dr Disrespect and that’s why he knows. Either way, this is all very odd and confusing.
The lack of context surrounding the ban has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories. If anything, Dr Disrespect’s statement seems to at least confirm he was not arrested. That should at least quell some of the more outlandish theories.
