Tune in to the first look at Madden 21 gameplay.

After delaying the Madden 21 first look gameplay reveal celebration, EA is finally ready to lift the curtain on this year’s installment. The reveal is set to take place today, June 16, at 10:00 a.m. ET (7:00 a.m. PT). The YouTube stream for the reveal is embedded below, so you can just keep it tuned here and watch it live.

This is the longest we’ve had to wait for a new Madden game to be revealed. Typically, EA formally announces the new installment in April around the time of the NFL Draft. This year, whether it was due to the coronavirus pandemic or something else, EA had been slow to reveal Madden 21.

Of course, we all knew it was coming. A new Madden is released every year, but usually a formal announcement is made in which EA also shares who will be the cover athlete. For Madden 21, the cover athlete announcement was prematurely spoiled by the athlete himself, Lamar Jackson. Despite his premature announcement, EA had still not formally announced or revealed the game.

The formal first look was supposed to happen on June 1; however, the celebration was postponed in order to keep the light shining on the Black Lives Matter movement and to bring attention to “the unjust treatment and systemic bias that is plaguing the nation and our world.” Fast forward two weeks and EA is finally ready to show us what Madden 21 will look like.

EA teased today’s announcement with a hype video starring Madden 21 cover athlete Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens. Alongside our first look at actual gameplay, we’ll hopefully also get some actual details.

I’d love to know what new features are coming as well as improvements being made as a result of the next-gen hardware. Madden has been plagued by glitches and bugs over the past few years so hopefully the arrival of next-gen consoles will help fix this.

We already know Madden 21 will be coming to Xbox Series X. It’s most certainly also coming to PlayStation 5 and current-gen system as well; but, I’m sure we’ll get an official announcement. Hopefully we get some clarity on any sort of upgrade program EA may be offering for Sony platforms. We already know those who purchase the game on Xbox One will be eligible to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for free. Let’s hope that same sort of deal is extended to PlayStation.
