Teamfight Tactics patch 10.7, the first major patch since the release of TFT: Galaxies, is set to drop on April 1 and it will bring a big buff to Dark Star champions.

Teamfight Tactics patch 10.7 is right around the corner and as is tradition, Riot Games’ lead designer Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer gave his rundown of the what’s to come. Among the changes is a rework to the Dark Star trait.

When TFT Set 3 launched this is how the Dark Star trait worked:

"When a Dark Star champion dies they give increased damage plus any previous stacks of this effect to the nearest ally Dark Star champion.(3) 50% Damage Increase(6) 80% Damage Increase"

Here’s how it will look after patch 10.7:

"When a Dark Star champion dies, all other allied Dark Star Champions gain Attack Damage and Spell Power.(3) +25 Attack Damage and Spell Power(6) +35 Attack Damage and Spell Power"

As explained by Mort, this change should reduce the randomness of the trait. Prior to patch 10.7, when a champion died, there was a bit of uncertainty as to who would get the increased damage.

Not only that, but under the previous trait, Dark Star champions like Karma didn’t really benefit all that much from it. So if the buff went to Karma instead of, say, Shaco, you were kind of screwed.

With this change, all Dark Star champions will benefit. Karma getting stacks is now actually useful.

Now I know what you’re thinking and no, this isn’t a nerf to Shaco (he’s getting his own personal nerf). Shaco, along with Jhin, have AP scaling. So Shaco with +150 Attack Damage and +150 Spell Power will still be pretty deadly.

“This is not a nerf even though it looks like it’s a nerf,” Mortimer assured. “This is actually, probably, a substantial buff to [Dark Star] consistency.”

Next. TFT best team comps (patch 10.6): How to play Shaco carry with Dark Star. dark

Currently, Shaco is one of the most powerful hyper carries in the game. In fact, the Dark Star Shaco comp is considered one of the best right now, just because of him. It’s basically a free win if you can three-star him. Following patch 10.6, Shaco will still be strong at two-star but his nerf along with the Dark Star changes won’t make him ridiculously strong if you three-star him. It will be interesting to see how this trait change coupled with his 3-star spell damage nerf impacts strategies post patch 10.6.
