If the latest leak for WB Montreal’s rumored Batman: Arkham game is to be believed, then it will be a reboot of the franchise.

With WB Games Montreal occasionally pumping out teasers for what appears to be a new Batman: Arkham game, yet offering no official comment or announcement, the only thing we have to go on is speculation and rumors. The latest development comes via Sabi, a major source of video game news and leaks, who claims that the new Batman game from WB Montreal will, indeed, be a reboot of the Batman: Arkham franchise.

Sabi claims to have spoken with “multiple people” about the project, reaffirming that the Court of Owls is “still a big focus.” He also mentioned that the name “also changed during development,” although he didn’t go into much detail. Presumably, any new game will still have Arkham in the title, so he could simply be referring to the initial rumors that the game would be called Batman: Arkham Legacy.

While Sabi has a fairly decent track record when it comes to news and leaks, it’s important that we keep this in perspective. Sources are sometimes wrong so this should still be considered a rumor until something more official comes along.

Should the rumor prove true, it’ll be interesting to see just how far WB Games Montreal takes this reboot. Would they opt for a hard reboot of the franchise and completely restart the Arkham universe from scratch? Or will it be more of a soft reboot where the previous games’ stories are still acknowledged, but this is so far removed that it feels like a new introduction to the Arkham universe?

The Batman: Arkham franchise is considered one of the best superhero video game series of all-time. WB Games Montreal was the developer of 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to 2009’s Arkham Asylum, which kicked off the entire series. It was previously thought that

Rocksteady might return to the series, but it was WB Montreal that jump-started the hype by posting multiple teaser images. The first hint came back in September of last year as a series of symbols flashed in a video dedicated to Batman’s 80th anniversary. After no reveal at The Game Awards in December, WB Montreal posted another teaser in the form of a logo with a message that read “/redacted.”

Unfortunately, it has been radio silence since, which is incredibly frustrating. Hopefully, something official gets announced soon because fans are starting to get irritated.
