Teamfight Tactics (TFT) patch 9.24 will introduce champions Senna and Lucian, who together comprise the new Soulbound class.

Riot Games revealed the new class that will be coming to Teamfight Tactics (TFT) with patch 9.24 next week. Its called “Soulbound,” and the class is comprised of Lucian and Senna.

While Lucian was previously featured in Set 1 of TFT, he returns in Rise of the Elements as a four gold unit with the new ability, The Culling.

"Lucian fires at 4 times his normal Attacks Per Second in a direction for 4 seconds, each attacking for 20/30/50% of his AD, applying on-hits, and dealing 30/40/50 magic damage."

He will be of Light origin, serving as the new carry for the trait. He specializes in single-target DPS.

He is also of the Soulbound class which is brand new to TFT. Requiring two champions — the other being Senna — Soulbound sends the first unit to die in a round into the Spirit Realm where they become untargetable and continue to fight as long as another Soulbound unit is alive. So if Lucian dies first, he will remain active in the fight, untargetable by enemy units and continuing to do damage until Senna is also killed.

Speaking of Senna, she is making her debut in Teamfight Tactics. In addition to the Soulbound class, she posses the Shadow origin, which makes sense given her lore.

A two-gold unit, Senna is described as a “back-line unit that focuses on buffing allies as well as dealing damage,” which is consistent with her role in Summoner’s Rift. Her ability, Piercing Darkness, infuses any friendly in the beam with bonus on-hit magic damage applied from Senna.

"Senna fires a beam through her furthest ally, dealing 50/100/150 magic damage to enemies, and buffing allies’ on-hits for 5 seconds to deal 25/45/65 magic damage from Senna."

My immediate reaction is that Souldbound is a wonderful addition to TFT that could be an effective counter to the currently dominant predator because the unit will still continue to fight and do damage until the other half is killed. Another Light DPS carry should help buff that origin, which is already pretty strong, and makes it more possible to get to the nine champion trait bonus.

With the arrival of Senna, Riot is also changing Shadow to a 3/6 model (+70%/+140%) instead of the current 2/4. While it appears that Senna may drop off late game, her addition as a support Shadow champion further bolsters that already strong origin.

As a two-gold unit, Senna should also help add some variety in team comps during the early game. A larger low-cost champion pool should make it harder to hyper-roll Druid and Woodland early on. It might become better to instead focus on getting a quick three Shadow bonus.

It’s hard to make too many predictions simply because we don’t know of any buffs or nerfs that TFT patch 9.24 will bring. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Predator/Poison get the nerf bat this round.
