After listening to player feedback, Ubisoft has decided not to increase The Division 2’s Gear Score cap to 515 with Title Update 3.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the upcoming Title Update 3 for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will not increase Gear Score beyond the current 500 cap. Originally, the plan was to increase it to 515 but offer those items only in the Dark Zone. This was met with great backlash, especially from players who don’t enjoy PvP.

Locking the best gear in the game behind the deadly walls of the Dark Zone was an odd decision, to begin with, and even though Ubisoft later clarified that the raid would also offer 515 gear, players still weren’t happy about the increase in general. Thankfully, player feedback has encouraged Ubisoft to rethink their approach, and the developer has now confirmed that The Division 2‘s Gear Score cap will remain at 500.

In this week’s State of the Game post, Ubisoft explained that pushing the Gear Score cap to 515 would’ve outdated any current Gear Score 500 items players had spent hours on into min/maxing and farming builds.

“We don’t want to invalidate your progression and we heard that feedback loud and clear from our community. Your gear and your builds are important to you and to us,” Ubisoft said.

One of my biggest complaints with The Division 2 was exactly what Ubisoft is avoiding with Title Update 3. I spent so much of the story and beginning of the endgame chasing the items with the highest Gear Score that I never really focused on putting together synergistic builds. By the time I got comfortable with a piece of gear or my build, it felt like I would reach a new World Tier or an update would release, increasing the Gear Score cap and forcing me to start over again.

“The statistical increase in stats would have made gear better but we don’t want the focus to be on constantly chasing a higher Gear Score when it should be about finding a playstyle and build that you enjoy,” Ubisoft added.

Gear Score 500 items will be found in both the Dark Zone and the 8-player Raid coming in Title Update 3. Additionally, the raid will offer exclusive loot, including new gear sets and an Exotic weapon – none of which have been revealed just yet. Finally, Ubisoft has outlined steps in which they will make it “clearer” where to farm for Gear Score 500 items.

The Division 2‘s Title Update 3 still doesn’t have an exact release date but is expected to arrive this coming week. Operation Dark Hours will be included, but will not immediately open up.
