Is it Daylight Saving Time Now?
Well, is it? You need to know, or the in-game clock for Pokemon Gold and Silver will be incorrect in just a few months. Is it Daylight Saving Time now?
I remember the exasperated look on my parents’ faces at Christmas of 1999 when I first received Pokemon Gold and Silver and my own Game Boy Color. I had only been playing a few minutes when I turned to them, confused, and asked, “Is it Daylight Saving Time now?”
Neither of them had any idea, of course. We all know to spring forward, or fall back. But we don’t always know if DST is on or off, and with Pokemon Gold and Silver out on Virtual Console, these are things we need to figure out really quick.
So, if you’re just getting the games today, September 22, here’s your answer: Yes, it is Daylight Saving Time right now.

This will change on the first Sunday in November, this year on November 5th, when we will fall back one hour and no longer be on Daylight Saving Time. If you’re reading this on November 5th or later, the answer is no, it is not Daylight Saving Time Now. We’ll return to DST on the second Sunday on March.
The exception for the United States is Arizona. Arizona does not change their clocks, therefore all people in Arizona should set their games for it to NOT be Daylight Saving Time, ever.
Don’t forget to come home and visit your mom twice a year to adjust your clock for Daylight Saving Time! Unlike later Pokemon games, the clock in Gold and Silver is entirely dictated by your actions at the start of the game and won’t be manipulated by your system clock, so you’re responsible for making sure the sun follows the correct passage of time.
Pokemon Gold and Silver released today for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.
