Is Hogwarts Legacy 2 currently in development?

Hogwarts Legacy completely took over the video game Wizarding World by storm nearly a year ago. Avalanche Software's open-world RPG granted players the chance to attend Hogwarts an entire century before the events of Harry Potter and see what it would be like to attend the iconic wizarding school. The game was so popular that it sold over 22 million copies since launching in February 2023. With how much success Hogwarts Legacy had, that surely means we can expect a Hogwarts Legacy 2 at some point right?

What is next for the video game Wizarding World?

Since Hogwarts Legacy will only be turning one in February 2024, I don't think there is any rush by Avalanche Software and Warner Brothers to pump out another Hogwarts Legacy video game this year, but somewhere down the line it is probably going to happen.

As you may or may not already know, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions seems like it is going to be the next Harry Potter video game to be released. There is currently no release date or timetable for this game to be released, but the game was already revealed last April.

David Haddad, the President of Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, stated that Warner Brothers plans on following Hogwarts Legacy success with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. David Haddad also went on to state that they want "the fans be part of this world and stories and characters in deeper and deeper ways."

There are a few hints that can be taken by Mr. Haddad's statements. For one, since Warner Brothers are following up on Hogwarts Legacy's success with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, that is most likely a guarantee that will be the next Harry Potter video game to be released. Since there is no release date yet to be announced for that game, I think it is safe to say that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is a lot further away than maybe some fans were hoping for.

The other bit of information to take away from his statement is that the plan is to let fans deep dive into stories and characters in the Wizarding World in "deeper and deeper" ways. Since Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is going focus on a competitive multiplayer, there must be other Harry Potter stroy games in development that will give gamers the chance to dive into the Wizarding World deeper like David Haddad has said. It doesn't appear as is Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is going to do a lot of storytelling, but rather a solely based multiplayer experience.

The great news to take away from all of this is that it does sound like there are Harry Potter story games in development that are going to continue to build on and grow the Wizarding World. With all the success that Hogwarts Legacy had and was one of the best-selling games of 2023, there is no doubt in my mind some sort of sequel is in the works. It just won't be for a while.

If you are a Harry Potter fan or a fan of incredible open-world RPG games, you definitely are going to want to check out Hogwarts Legacy. The Wizarding World is only going to continue to expand in the video game world and you aren't going to want to fall too far behind.
