Tears of the Kingdom: How to transfer your Breath of the Wild horses
There are tons of great horses to capture and tame in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. From Zelda’s Golden Horse to the Giant White Stallion, there are plenty of horse options to suit every horseback rider’s dream. However, the same can be said about Breath of the Wild.
There were tons of great horses that you were able to tame in Breath of the Wild and it would be a shame to let those great horses be left behind with Tears of the Kingdom’s predecessor. Luckily, Tears of the Kingdom allows you to use your horses that you have tamed in Breath of the Wild.
How to use your horses from BOTW in Tears of the Kingdom
Getting to use your horses from Breath of the Wild is actually extremely simple to do. In order to accomplish this, you must first follow a few simple steps.
- For starters, you have to make sure that you have your Breath of the Wild data saved on your Nintendo Switch. This is critically important because without the saved data, there is no way to retrieve your horses from the prior game. If you are unsure of whether or not you have your data saved from Breath of the Wild, you can head to Data Management in the System Settings, and you should be able to find out relatively quickly. You also need to make sure that you had horses saved in your stables from BOTW.
- Once you have confirmed all the saved data is there, you are going to want to travel to any Stable in Hyrule. You will need to complete the tutorial of The Great Sky Island before you can do this, and this will take a couple hours to complete by itself. Once you reach the Stables, you can talk to the NPC that is running it. If this is your first time at the Stables, the game will automatically try and pull saved data from BOTW and import it into Tears of the Kingdom.
- After the NPC gives you the rundown at the Stables, you are going to need to speak with them again. This time around speaking with them, they will inform you that you have horses that are boarded here at the Stables. This is referring you to the horses you tamed in Breath of the Wild. You should be able to then select the option “Take Horse” and see all your boarded horses from Breath of the Wild that you can now use in Tears of the Kingdom.
What happens if you don’t see any of your horses saved from BOTW?
You may have followed all of the steps above and may have still run into the problem of none of your horses showing up. This is not an uncommon issue.
The most common issue is that your saved data from Breath of the Wild isn’t on your Nintendo Switch. If you realize this to be the case after you already have started playing Tears of the Kingdom, there is only one thing to do.
Your only option at this point would be to wipe all your Tears of the Kingdom data from the Switch and start all over from scratch. This is because Tears of the Kingdom only pulls your data from Breath of the Wild the first time you load up the game for the first time.
I think that it is a very useful feature Nintendo added to their game. Traveling is a big part of every Legend of Zelda video game. Getting to use some of the horses from the previous installment will make the early stages of Tears of the Kingdom a lot easier and make traveling better in the early stages as well. However, Tears of the Kingdom has some amazing horse breeds that will be worth trying to tame.
