MLB The Show 23 ratings: Full list of players with perfect 99 overall

The term “99 Club” isn’t exclusive to the MLB The Show franchise. A 99 overall is the highest rating that you can receive in sports video games and if you earn that rating, you will be inducted into the 99 Club. Getting a 99 overall in MLB The Show is truly an honor for baseball players. In MLB The Show 23, there will be five players who will get that honor this year.

Getting the honor of receiving a 99 overall is not easy and is something that is definitely earned throughout your playing career. The five men on this list have definitely earned the right to join the 99 Club in MLB The Show 23. If you take a look a look at the list above, there are some really amazing players and some really amazing players who did not make the list.

There is no shock to see Aaron Judge on this list after the 2022 season that he had. Aaron Judge was able to hit 62 HRs last season, snapping the single-season American League HR record set by Roger Maris in 1961. Judge’s performance also earned him the American League MVP and sent the New York Yankees back to the postseason. If 100 overalls existed, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see Judge earn a 100 overall. The performance we saw from him in 2022 was truly legendary.

The Texas Rangers are also going to be getting a 99 overall player in the form of Jacob deGrom. If deGrom can stay healthy, he is arguably the best pitcher in the world. His fastball is lethal, his whole pitch arsenal is impressive, and his placement with the ball is immaculate. There is a reason that Jacob deGrom is the only pure pitcher on this list in the 99 Club. There aren’t many pitchers capable of performing the way Jacob deGrom does.

If you are a Los Angeles Angels fan, you get the honor of having two players on your team who has the 99 overall rating tag on them. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are the two biggest pieces that the Angels have. It is unfortunate that the last time the Angles made the postseason was in 2014. You would think that with both Trout and Ohtani that they can make some magic happen, but that hasn’t been the case as of yet. Mike Trout constantly finds him in the 99 Club because he has been the best baseball player of the era we are currently in. When he comes to the plate, expect there to be contact with the ball.

Shohei Ohtani is unique because he can both hit and pitch and in a very elite way. Shohei Ohtani will DH and pitch in the same game and that is something that isn’t seen anymore. Normally pitchers aren’t the greatest hitters and vice versa, but Shohei Ohtani is truly something special and it is great to have a player like him in the MLB.

Finally, we turn our heads to the final 99 overall player on this list, Paul Goldschmidt. Paul Goldschmidt had an unbelievable season. Goldy hit 35 HRs, 115 RBIs, and had a batting average of .317. Those stats ultimately earned him the National League MVP and his seventh All-Star appearance. It is only fair that Sony San Diego gave him a 99 overall to join the ranks of the other four athletes on this list.

If you are wondering where some of the other great baseball players are such as Justin Verlander, Mookie Betts, or Max Scherzer, they came close to the 99 Club, but fell short. Justin Verlander will be receiving a 98 overall in MLB The Show 23 and both Mookie Betts and Max Scherzer will be receiving a 96 overall.
