It was teased a few days ago that the cover athlete for MLB The Show 23 would be announced today and many baseball fans in the community offered their opinions on which MLB star they would love to see on the cover this year. Names like Aaron Judge and Julio Rodriguez were some of the more popular ones being thrown around. However, MLB and Sony released the official cover athlete today, and it’s definitely one out of left field. Or center field, rather. Or maybe even second base. The cover athlete for MLB The Show 23 is Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Miami Marlins. It’s an unexpected selection but one that feels so perfect.

While there are many MLB athletes who are deserving to be on the cover of MLB The Show 23, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is an up-and-coming player who brings excitement to the sport of baseball. Although he only played in 60 games last season, he still managed to make the 2022 All-Star game because of his electrifying performance in those 60 games.

Ever since MLB The Show 18, cover athletes for the game have all been relatively young players — all age 26 or younger. Jazz Chisholm Jr. continues that trend, as he will turn 25 years old in his upcoming fourth season.

What makes Jazz Chisholm Jr. such an electrifying and exciting player is definitely his speed when he reaches the bases. In only 205 games, Chisholm Jr. has managed to steal 37 bases.

But he’s also a threat when he comes up to the plate.  In his young career, Chisholm Jr. also has managed to rack up 104 RBIs. That’s about an RBI every other game from him.

His threat at the plate and on the base path are some of the features that make him such a fun baseball player to watch.

When Jazz Chisholm Jr. found out he was getting the honor this year to grace the cover of MLB The Show 23 he was ecstatic. The upcoming superstar said: “As a kid, I always wanted to be on the cover of MLB the Show. So, it means almost just like winning the MVP in a sense. You get to live out your childhood dream.”

If you are someone who normally likes to get a pre-order in to soak in all the extra bonuses, you can do that in about a week. Luckily, the release date will not be too long after the pre-order start date. MLB The Show 23 will launch on March 28, 2023, and will be available across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
