Lightfall is the newest expansion for Destiny 2, set to release this week. As we previously detailed, there are two versions of Destiny 2: Lightfall available for purchase.

The standard edition costs $49.99 and includes the base DLC campaign, which provides access to the new raid, new exotic gear and access to Season 20, Season of Defiance. There’s also the Destiny 2: Lightfall + Annual Pass for $99.99. The big difference here is, of course, the Annual Pass, which tacks on another $50 to your purchase. So what are you getting with the Destiny 2: Lightfall + Annual Pass?

What’s included in the Annual Pass for Destiny 2: Lightfall?

Each year of Destiny is split into four seasons, each introducing new content in the form of storylines, cosmetics and more. Each season costs roughly $10 to access its content. So yes, you’re paying for the expansion plus a year’s worth of additional seasonal content.

Year 6 of Destiny 2, Lightfall, will feature seasons 20 (Season of Defiance), 21 (Season of the Deep), 22 (TBA) and 23 (TBA). As I mentioned, the standard edition already provides access to the season 20 pass.

The annual pass covers the remainder of the year — seasons 21, 22 and 23. At $10 each, all four seasons would equate to about $40, so what’s the other $10 in the Destiny 2: Lightfall + Annual pass get you? Cosmetics. These come in the form of an Exotic Emote, Emblem, Exotic Ghost, Exotic Sparrow. You’ll also get early access to the Quicksilver Storm, a new Exotic Auto Rifle.

Should you buy Destiny 2: Lightfall + Annual Pass?

In my opinion, it depends on how much you plan on playing Destiny 2 in 2023. If you’re a longtime player and plan on sticking around for all four seasons, it’s probably worth it — especially if you’re interested in following along with all of the storylines. If you’re just dipping your toes into Destiny 2 for the first time, perhaps try the free-to-play version before deciding on Lightfall. If you’re on PlayStation, you can also download Beyond Light for free during February, giving you a taste of what to expect from DLC. From there, you can decide on whether or not to purchase Lightfall and its Annual Pass.
