While much of the country is still in the midst of a cold winter, Sony San Diego has their sights set on spring. The Major League Baseball season is right around the corner with Spring Training set to begin in late February. With just a few weeks to go, Sony San Diego is gearing up for the reveal of the latest installment in their annual baseball video game series, MLB The Show 23.

The developer has taken to social media to tease the upcoming cover athlete reveal event, which will take place on Monday, January 30th at 12:00 p.m. PT. You can watch the reveal live on Twitch. The announcement was made alongside a very trippy graphic.

Shortly after, the official MLB The Show Twitter account shared a second image and tagged three individuals with it. What does it mean? Your guess is as good as ours.

Another thing we can guess is who the actual cover athlete will be. Last year’s game featured Shohei Ohtani. The Los Angeles Angels’ two-way player and global superstar has been the face of baseball around the world and was honored with being the cover athlete for MLB The Show 22 following a tremendous 2021 season in which he hit 46 home runs and 100 RBIs while compiling a 9-2 record as a starting pitcher.

Ohtani put together another solid season both at the plate and on the mound last year, but there was another storyline that dominated the headlines last year; Aaron Judge setting a new AL home run record by smacking 62 dingers in a season and breaking the record previously held by Roger Maris since 1961. It’s quite possible that the Yankees slugger could be on the cover of MLB The Show 23. That being said, there are a few other worthy candidates as well.

If the reveal is similar to last year, then we will also find out the release date, platforms and key features in MLB The Show 23. It’s possible we’ll have to wait until later in February to see gameplay though.
