A new year means we are a bit closer to MLB The Show 23. While we don’t have an official release date for the game, we do know that it should be released within the next two to three months. One of the most exciting things to look forward to, besides the release date, is the cover athlete. Shohei Ohtani got the honors last year and it was very well deserved after becoming the AL MVP in 2021. While Ohtani is such a talented player on both offense and defense, there will be a new sheriff in town and another talented athlete will be taking their place on MLB The Show 23.

There are many players in the MLB who can be argued that they deserve to have themselves on the cover each year. Year in and year out there are players that set records, achieve some amazing feats, and take their team to the World Series to win a championship. With all of that talent, it is hard to choose just one player every year for this honor, but it is something that has to be done. There were three players that really stuck out during the 2022 season more than anyone else and have the best chance of being on the cover of MLB The Show 23.

Julio Rodriguez

One of the most entertaining and exciting MLB teams to watch in 2022 was the Seattle Mariners. After 21 hard-fought years, the Seattle Mariners ended their playoff drought thanks to a Cal Raleigh homerun over the Oakland Athletics. One of the most exciting MLB players to watch was on the Seattle Mariners and his name was Julio Rodriguez.

Julio Rodriguez was a rookie last season, and he was the best rookie that there was in the MLB. Having 28 home runs, 75 RBIs, 25 stolen bases, and earning a .284 batting average, there was no surprise that Julio Rodriguez became the AL Rookie of the Year. To be a threat to steal bases while putting up these crazy rookie stats, we knew Julio Rodriguez was going to be a special athlete.

Interestingly enough, Fox Sports ran a poll on their Instagram account wanting to know who fans would like to see on the cover of MLB The Show 23. The winner of the Fox Sports poll was none other than Julio Rodriguez. Julio has already gotten behind the MLB fan base and there are a lot of MLB fans and gamers who would love to see him on the cover.

Julio Rodriguez also already signed a contract extension with the Seattle Mariners back in August of 2022. This contract extension locked up Julio for a minimum of 12 years through 2034 and could run all the way until 2039. The first 12 years have a guarantee of $210 million, not too bad for a kid going into his second MLB year.

Everyone knows how good Julio Rodriguez is going to be and how good he already is. Julio has got to be one of the early favorites, if not the favorite to grace the cover of MLB The Show 23. After all the JROD Show on MLB The Show 23 has a very nice ring to it.
