By now, we’ve covered the many new and unique ways to evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for Nintendo Switch. Gimmighoul require you to collect coins. Pawmo has you walking all over the place. And Finizen has you visiting friends. Rockruff requires you to perform an action during a certain time of day in the game. Others, like your three starter Pokemon, simply require the traditional method of simply leveling them up.

The surprisingly Rock-Type line of Bonsly and Sudowoodo has a special requirement in which only a Bonsly that knows a specific move can trigger the evolution sequence.

Bonsly is a little fella that looks like a potted bonsai tree with legs. But despite it looking like a plant, it is absolutely Rock-Type. You can find these guys running around wooded areas.

Once you have one you need to level it up a bit and get it to level 18. This might not trigger the evolution though depending on what you do next. At level 18, Bonsly can learn the move Mimic. To evolve Bonsly into a Sudowoodo you have to level a Bonsly that knows Mimic.

Mimic is a pretty interesting move as it copies the last move your opponent used and swaps out Mimic with that move for the rest of the Sudowoodo’s time in the battle. Depending on what your opponent decides to do this can be great or borderline useless.

Sudowoodo itself is a pretty interesting addition to any team. It has a high defense stat and solid attack stats which goes well with its ability to learn all the elemental punches making it a decent wild card if you need a good physical attack cannon. Just remember that Fighting, Steel, Ground, Water, and Grass will all put this poor kid out of commission.
