Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: How to evolve Rockruff into its different forms
Many of the Pokemon in the new Scarlet and Violet have different ways to evolve. We’ve already covered the bizarre evolutionary methods of some of the newer Pokemon like Gimmighoul, Pawmo, and Finizen, as well as new evolutions for Primeape and Girafarig. Some Pokemon, like the starters, for example, require the more traditional leveling methods.
The adorable Rockruff is an interesting one because while it will always evolve into a Lycanroc, Lycanroc can be one of three different forms Midday, Midnight, and the rare Dusk form. It involves what time of day you evolve it in.
How to evolve Rockruff in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
To get Rockruff into its Midday Lycanroc form, you need to get it to level 25 during the daytime.
If you’re looking to get Rockruff to become a Midnight Lycanroc you need to get it to level 25 during the nighttime.
And if you’re looking to get Rockruff to become the rare Dusk Lycanroc you need to get it to level 25 in the very narrow time period of dusk.
For Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, this is the in-game clock, not the real world. Day and night is pretty easy to tell. Dusk is a little tricky, you got to watch for the sky to be purplish and based on the game’s in-game clock you might miss the mark or even be too early.
There’s not a lot of difference between the three forms other than appearance. Midnight is the slowest with the highest special defense, defense, and HP. Midday’s main perk is it’s the fastest. And Dusk’s got the highest attack stat of the three.
Mostly it comes down to preference. Midday and Dusk forms are the only Pokemon capable of learning the move Accelerock which is a weaker Rock attack that has the perk of always hitting first.
Whichever you decide to go with though, Lycanrock is an awesome Rock-type addition to any team. Especially if you can find one of its amazing blue shiny forms.
