Overwatch 2: How to gain access and unlock every Hero
Overwatch 2 hasn’t really gotten off to a great launch. The servers have been shaky, the queues have been massively long, and there are still a ton of fixes that need to be done. However, a great part about the game is that there is no shortage of Heroes to play as and unlock during your Overwatch 2 journey. In fact, there are a total of 35 playable Heroes with 13 of them being available to everyone who plays the game.
Heroes that are unlocked from the beginning
- Lucio
- Mercy
- Moira
- Orisa
- Pharah
- Reinhardt
- Reaper
- Soldier 76
- Torbjorn
- Tracer
- Widowmaker
- Winston
- Zarya
As long as you own Overwatch 2, these are the 13 Heroes that you will start off with. This is just the tip of the iceberg as there are still 22 other playable Heroes that you can unlock as well. The remaining 22 characters are pretty simple to unlock as it only requires a little bit of a playing grind to do so.

- Sojourn: Available instantly to people who played the original Overwatch
The more matches that are played, the more Heroes will be unlocked. This may seem like a difficult task given all the backlash that Overwatch 2 is receiving right now but unlocking these characters will become natural.
The three Heroes that aren’t unlocked by playing a certain number of matches are Kiriko, Junker Queen, and Sojourn. Don’t worry, if you haven’t played the original Overwatch or don’t have the Battle Pass, you don’t lose out on using these three Heroes. There are also more ways to unlock Kiriko, Junker Queen, and Sojourn.
Blizzard doesn’t plan on stopping with these 35 Heroes either. As the Season’s progress there will be new Heroes making their way into the game and many more to explore. Overwatch 2 is going to be around for a very long time, so the more Heroes you unlock and obtain, the more variety you will have.
