Overwatch 2 has officially launched today — well, the multiplayer portion — and with it comes three brand new heroes to play as. Sojourn, Junker Queen and Kiriko are joining the ranks of Blizzard’s team-based shooter, expanding the game’s roster to 35 heroes.

However, not everyone will have access to these new heroes from the start. Here’s how to unlock Sojourn, Junker Queen and Kiriko in Overwatch 2.

How to unlock Sojourn and Junker Queen

To unlock Junker Queen and Sojourn, all you have to do is download and play Overwatch 2 at launch. As long as you login and play the game at any point during Season One, you’ll automatically unlock these two heroes. Season One of Overwatch 2 runs from October 4 through December 5.

How to unlock Kiriko

Although Kiriko is gated behind the Season One Battle Pass, there are ways to immediately unlock her at the start.

For starters, anyone who owns the original Overwatch will receive Kiriko through their Founder’s Pack. To qualify for the Founder’s Pack you must have owned a copy of Overwatch prior to June 23, 2022.  Then, in order to redeem the Founder’s Pack, you need to log into the live game by December 5, 2022. According to Blizzard:

"This includes logging into the original overwatch prior to October 4, or logging into Overwatch 2 after launch."

The Founder’s Pack also contains two epic skins: General Doomfist and Jester Sombra.

Another way to obtain Kiriko immediately is to purchase the Season One Battle Pass. The Premium Battle Pass costs 1000 Overwatch Coins, which is the equivalent of $10. Alternatively, if you purchased the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack, then you already received the Season One Battle Pass, so you’ll get Kiriko for free immediately.

If you didn’t qualify for the Founder’s Pack and don’t want to purchase the Watchpoint Pack or the SEason One Battle Pass, you can still obtain Kiriko for free, but it will take a bit of time and grinding. You’ll be able to unlock her once you reach Tier 55 on the the free Battle Pass track.

Obtaining future new heroes in Overwatch 2

Beyond Season One, Blizzard has plans to release a new Tank Hero at the start of Season Two as well as new heroes every other season thereafter, so Season 4 and Season 6. To obtain these heroes immediately, you’ll need to purchase that season’s Battle Pass or grind to Tier 55 in the free track of the Battle Pass.

Once a season ends, you’ll be able to obtain the associated heroes by purchasing them individually from the in-game store or completing specific in-game challenges. It’s unclear what these challenges will be.
