Madden Ratings Week kicked off yesterday on ESPN with the reveal of the top-rated receivers in Madden 23. The reveal featured the ratings reveal for both the wide receiver and tight end position.

For the wide receiver position, the rankings actually weren’t too different from my predictions. Although the order was a bit shuffled, the top five was pretty accurate.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who previously tore up defenses with the Green Bay Packers, is once again the best rated receiver in Madden 23. He returns with a 99 overall rating with 90 Speed, 92 Acceleration, 99 Awareness and 99 Catch ratings.

While EA and I agree on the remaining top receivers, where we had them positioned differed slightly. EA has Cooper Kupp as the second-best wide receiver in Madden 23.

Kupp is coming off an incredible 2021 season in which he led the lead in receptions (145), yards (1947) and touchdowns (16).  That wasn’t quite enough to get him in the 99 Club, but he returns with a 98 overall rating.

I don’t have a problem with Kupp as the second best receiver in the game, but I did rate him a little lower due to the fact that I don’t think he’ll repeat his performance. But I guess until EA sees any sort of regression, he’ll maintain his 98 rating.

Tyreek Hill (Miami Dolphins), DeAndre Hopkins (Arizona Cardinals), and Stefon Diggs (Buffalo Bills) round out the top five, which is what many probably predicted.

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who has had an incredible two seasons in the league, checks in just outside the top five with a 93 overall rating. I had Jefferson as the third best receiver in the NFL, but I admit that may have been a stretch as he was only rated a 90 at the end of Madden 22. He gets a slight bump to a 93 overall rating, but I could see him climb higher if he has another stellar season.

  1. Davante Adams – 99 OVR
  2. Cooper Kupp – 98 OVR
  3. Tyreek Hill – 97 OVR
  4. DeAndre Hopkins – 96 OVR
  5. Stefon Diggs – 95 OVR
  6. Justin Jefferson – 93 OVR
  7. Mike Evans – 92 OVR
  8. Keenan Allen – 91 OVR
  9. Terry McLaurin – 91 OVR
  10. Amari Cooper – 90 OVR
  11. Michael Thomas – 90 OVR

Next. Madden 23: Davante Adams returns to the 99 Club. dark

Perhaps the most shocking rating in Madden 23 so far is Ja’Maar Chase. The Bengals wide receiver put up incredible numbers in his rookie season, catching 81 passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns. He returns to Madden with an impressive 87 overall rating, some may feel is a bit too low for the second-year wide receiver. EA isn’t usually quick to boost the ratings of young wide receivers, so the developer may be waiting to see how Chase performs in his sophomore season. For what it’s worth, quarterback Tom Brady had some advice for the young receiver upon learning his rating.

Lastly, I want to touch on Michael Thomas. The 29 year old receiver for the New Orleans Saints comes into Madden 23 with 90 overall rating, making him tied with Amari Cooper as the 10th best wide receiver in the game. It’s an interesting position given that Thomas hasn’t played since 2020. Injuries kept him out all of 2021, but EA typically doesn’t hold injuries against a player’s rating. Prior to his injuries, Thomas was at the top of his game, recording three straight seasons of 100-plus receptions and 1,200-plus yards. He was once considered the league’s best receiver, which explains his 90 overall rating in Madden 23.
