Lichdragon Fortissax is an optional Legendary boss in Elden Ring. However, for those of you Trophy or Achievement hunting or looking to unlock the “Age of Duskborn” ending, defeating this boss is mandatory.

Lichdragon Fortissax is located in Deeproot Depths, but getting there requires a bit of work. Follow this guide to see how to reach Lichdragon Fortissax in Elden Ring.

There are actually multiple ways to fight Lichdragon Fortissax and the easiest is completing Fia’s questline. Fia is an NPC who can be found in one of the side rooms at the Roundtable Hold. She’s sitting on a bed and when you talk to her, she usually asks to “hold you.”

Fia and the Deathbed Companion’s Quest

To being your journey to Lichdragon Fortissax, you must first progress the Fia and the Deathbed Companion’s quest. At some point — it’s believed after you’ve defeated two Shardbearers and rode the Grand Lift of Dectus — Fia will hand you a broken dagger. You mus talk to D, Hunter of the Dead, at Roundtable Hold and give it to him to trigger the next part.

Reload the Roundtable Hold area by fast traveling somewhere and then returning. When you load back in, head into the newly opened room beyond Blacksmith Hewg and you’ll find D dead on the floor. Fia, standing over him, talks a bit and then disappears.

Continue Ranni’s questline until you earn the Carian Inverted Statue

Now there’s a little bit of an overlap with Ranni’s questline. Ranni the Witch is found in the Three Sisters sub-region of Liurnia of the Lakes, which is beyond Caria Manor. As you progress through Ranni’s quesltine, you’ll give her the Fingerlsayer Blade and, in return, she’ll give you the Carian Inverted Statue.

Take the Carian Inverted Statue to the Carian Study Hall and use it a the desk to flip the tower and access the secret area. Make your way to the top and you’ll obtain the Cursemark of Death.

Head to Deeproot Depths

Now it’s time to head to Deeproot Depths, which can be reached through a cave in Nokron, Eternal City (you can reach this through the giant crater south of Mistoowd that opens up after you defeat Starscourge Radahn. Head through the Ancestral Woods area and look for a hidden cave path. This will lead you to the Valian Gargoyles boss. Defeat them both and use the coffin on the ledge.

After using the coffin, you’ll appear in the Deeproot Depths, which is located underneath Leyndell, The Royal Capitol. Make your way through the Deeproot Depths and climb the large Erdtree branches that curve through the city until you reach the Across the Roots Site of Grace (it’s on a ledge overlooking the city).

Keep moving forward and run towards the sludge-looking area with a giant beast creature. As you approach, you’ll be attacked by Fia’s Champions and Lionel the Lionhearted. Defeat them and go talk to Fia, who is sitting on a log.

Speak to her and choose the option “No, I want to be held.” Continue speaking to her until she tells you about the Hallowbrand, the mark of the half-centipede left in the demigod Godwyn when he was killed. She will then tell you that she is after the second such cursemark.

Hopefully you followed this guide and already have the Cursemark of Death. Otherwise you’re going to want to go back and follow the above directions. Give Fia the Cursemark of Death. Talk to her a bit more and she will tell you about her plan to lay with Godwyn. Refresh the area by fast traveling and when yo uerturn, you’ll find that Fia has gone to sleep. Interact with her again and enter the Deathbed Dream. This is where you’ll finally encounter Lichdragon Fortissax.

It should be noted that you can start Ranni’s questline before Fia’s. There’s no actual required order, but it makes things easier if you already have the Curse of Deathmark when you reach Fia.
