MLB The Show 22 was officially announced this month with Sony confirming an April 4 release date. Despite the ongoing lockout, which has put a pause on free agency and threatens the start of Spring Training and possibly the regular season, The Show will go on as usual.

As per usual, we’re going to start with our ratings predictions for this year’s game, beginning with starting pitchers. Easily one of the most important positions on a team, quality starting pitching is always in high demand and very often short supply. Teams with a solid five-man rotation, or at least three quality starters, have a decent shot at making the playoffs.

Looking at last year’s ratings, the top five pitchers for MLB The Show 21 were Jacob deGrom, Clayton Kershaw, Shane Bieber, Max Scherzer and Gerrit Cole. Only deGrom boasted a 99 overall to start; however, by the end of the season he was joined by Max Scherzer and Corbin Burnes as players with perfect ratings in the game. Clearly a lot can happen over the course of a baseball season and often unsuspecting players rise into the spotlight.

With that in mind, here are our predictions for the best starting pitchers in MLB The Show 22.

Jacob DeGrom (New York Mets) – 99 Overall

For years now, Jacob DeGrom has been one of the best starting pitchers in all of baseball. Prior to being shutdown midway through the season, the New York Mets ace was on an absolute tear.  The two-time Cy Young winner was have one of the best seasons of his career which, unfortunately was cut short due to elbow tightness.

In 15 starts (92 innings) in 2021, deGrom posted a 7-2 record with a 1.08 era and 146 strikeouts to just 11 walks. I mean, it’s hard to get more perfect than that.

Given DeGrom’s status as one of the league’s best pitchers and what he accomplished on the mound last season, I see no reason why he wouldn’t return as the best pitcher in MLB The Show 22. He began last year with a 99 overall and I think he’ll stay at that to start the year for MLB The Show 22.
