The Pokémon TCG (Trading Card Game) is getting a special set this Summer all about Pokémon GO. With just one set to express what makes Pokémon GO unique, what kinds of cards can we expect to find in a dedicated Pokémon GO Trading Card Game expansion?

Pokémon GO Trading Card Game expansion predictions

Not much is known about what cards will be in the set, but from previews Niantic provided of the packaging we can assume that the artwork will feature Pokémon in real-life landscapes. Given the nature of Pokémon GO, I want to see Pokémon in iconic locations throughout the world.

If this is the case, I can see players and collectors cherishing the cards that feature their hometowns or favored travel destinations.

There are mechanics specific to Pokémon GO that have not been represented in the card game. PokéStops, Lures and Trainer cards of the Team Leaders are among the cards I want to see.

We’ve already seen Professor Willow get his own card in an alternate-art Promo version of Professor’s Research. Willow himself appears on the preview packaging, but it’s not the same art from that Promo.

We also get shots of a PokéStop, Larvitar, Mewtwo, Pikachu, Conkeldurr, Aipom, Gyarados and a Blissey guarding a Gym hilariously enough.

It’s not confirmed if the set will feature brand new, mechanically unique cards or reprints of older cards with Pokémon GO themed-art. The appearance of Willow and the PokéStop on the cover makes me think it’ll be a combination of both, but I’d love to be surprised.

What we do know is that the set releases Summer 2022, and packs will have 10 cards just like any other expansion.

I already get the feeling these will be a hit for players and collectors alike. I just hope the print run for this Pokémon GO Trading Card Game set can satisfy demand. We’ll know more details as we approach Summer 2022.
