2021 hasn’t been the greatest of years with much of the world still mired in the pandemic. Many of us are hoping 2022 brings greater fortune and we’re eager to ring in the New Year with jubilation. In Pokemon GO, Niantic is going big with not just one evening of celebration, but four days!

The New Years 2022 party in Pokemon GO begins on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:00 p.m. and runs until Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this time, fans will see fireworks, receive event bonuses, complete Timed Research and encounter costumed Pokemon.

Usher in the New Year with fireworks appearing in game each evening from Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11:00 p.m. to Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. local time. Those who login during this event will also receive 2x Hatch Stardust, 2x Hatch Candy and 1/2 Hatch Distance. New Year-themed cosmetics will also be available for purchase from the shop with Pokecoins, including 2022 Glasses and an outfit to match (Headband, Jacket Set, Pants and Shoes). New Year-themed stickers will also be obtainable by spinning PokeStops, opening Gifts and purchasing them from the shop.

Perhaps the most exciting possibility is the chance to encounter costumed Pokemon both new and from years past. Appearing for the first time are New Year’s Hat Hoothoot and 2022 Glasses Slowking, but players will also encounter 2020 Glasses Slowpoke, 2021 Glasses Slowbro, New Year’s Hat Pikachu, Party Hat Gengar and Party Hat Wobbuffet in the wild, in raids and in research encounters throughout the event.

An even lengthier list of costumed Pokemon such as Party Hat Bulbasaur, Party Hat Charmander, Party Hat Squirtle, Party Hat Raticate, Party Hat Nidorino, New Year Hat Pichu, New Year Hat Pikachu, New Year Hat Riachu and more will be appearing in various parts of the game, whether it be Raids, in the wild or through Field Research.

As always, with COVID-19 making a resurgence, make sure you’re adhering to local guidelines and maintaining safe and social distances from others. Now let’s ring in the New Year!
