Supercell Games is best known for its catalog of mobile games. Clash of Clans being the biggest, Supercell is also responsible for mobile hits such as Hay Day, Boom Beach, Clash Royal and Brawl Stars. They’ve also got three additional mobile games in development. But the company continues to reinvent itself and find ways to expand to offer players more types of gameplay experiences.

This month, the company announced plans to open its first game studio based in North America. And the focus will be on something we’ve not yet seen from Supercell: cross-platform games.

“We want to build ambitious games players may not expect from Supercell,” said Ryan Wener, NA Studio GM.

As the studio is looking to ramp up hiring and form its team, exact plans are still not completely fleshed out, but it seems the focus will at least be on cross-platform gaming experiences across PC, console and mobile. The actual announcement post served as more of a recruiting tool, looking for “an ambitious founder-type game developer.”

"If you dream of reimagining a deep game experience for the widest possible audience around the globe, then this could be the right opportunity. If you have a game idea in the back of your mind, reinventing your favorite gameplay to make something entirely new, then we should talk."

It seems like Supercell is really open to any idea right now, including new IP as well as games using the already existing Clash or Brawl Stars IP.

The goal right now is to hire a team — an existing duo, trio or team — that could serve as the core, or “kernel,” of the studio. The post itself is more focused on the team of developers than the actual games themselves. But we do know whatever comes from this studio will have the potential to arrive on PC and console as well as mobile devices. That prospect itself is pretty exciting.

This new studio is the latest move by Supercell to expand its catalog of games. It follows on the heels of three new Clash games currently in development: Clash Quest, Clash Mini and Clash Heroes. All three of those games are coming to mobile devices but perhaps some them could serve as the foundation for a new console or PC game.
