Nintendo Switch: The best games and my favorite moments from 2021
3. New Pokemon Snap and its later DLC
I think you’re starting to get an idea of how casual of gaming I get into on my Switch.
I loved Pokemon Snap, so much so that I played the original almost quarterly despite it coming out in 1999. It was like one of those interactive Disney rides. A chill monorail through a series of set pieces that you can lightly interact with. It not only was a fun experience but it also gave a lot more personality to the Pokemon universe that, up until that point, were mostly those animal things that occasionally slam into each other.
The sequel showed a huge amount of love for the original, not only remaining loyal to the source gameplay but also adding a few new elements like online showcases. The graphics were very pretty, the controls had some great quality of life features like the ability to instantly turn 180 (which is a godsend should you try to catch Mew).
Then, later in August, the game surprised everyone by releasing brand new DLC for free. The DLC added an entirely new island with new secrets to discover along with new paths in older stages. This included somewhere you shrink smaller than a Weedle and slide through the grass observing things from a bug’s perspective. Also, they added Zeraora which I absolutely love.
