NBA 2K22: The City brings your athlete to life on next-gen consoles
If you plan on playing NBA 2K22 on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch, prepare to board the “Cancha del Mar” — a cruise ship that will allow you to take part in activities and new excursions each new in-game season. However, if you plan on purchasing NBA 2K22 on Xbox Series X/S or PS5, you’ll be taken to The City.
The City is an all-new area designed for the popular MyPLAYER mode. The City is more immersive than ever, designed so the world around you comes to life and makes it feel like you are living your best NBA superstar dream.
This is the 2nd year of The City in an NBA 2K video game, but this year there have been some new additions along with a visually stunning new scenery. The City added a handful of new features this year as follows:
- New City Quests
- Increased NPCs
- Ability to upgrade your crib
- Tons of new exploration options
- New rewards

The City will have tons of new things available for you to do. You will be able to expand your brand off the court and potentially become a rap icon, if that is something you want to choose to be. If you rather be a fashion mogul, you can do that as well. The increased number of NPCs make it feel like you are exploring an actual real life city with tons of city life going on.
The City really makes it feel like you are playing an open world sports video game — something we haven’t ever seen before. What makes The City even more expansive this year is that that if you want to get around The City with a Go-Kart, you can do it. If you want a zipline in your crib, you can do it. 2K continues to put a lot of their time and effort into their offline modes to give the game more of a realistic feel and it appears to be paying off.

NBA 2K22 comes out Friday, September 10. If you want to take advantage of an expanded The City game mode, you will have to purchase the game on either the Xbox Series X/S or the PS5. If you don’t have the next gen consoles yet and plan on buying the game on Xbox One, PS4 or Nintendo Switch, you can still take advantage of an updated MyCAREER mode, along with the “Cancha del Mar” in The Neighborhood game mode.
