Microsoft has already experimented with Xbox Cloud Gaming (aka xCloud) for mobile devices and PCs. For those unfamiliar, xCloud allows you to stream games over the internet instead of installing them on a single device to play them. From Microsoft’s early experimentation with mobile devices and PCs, it has appeared to be a success. And now Microsoft is ready to bring it to consoles.

One of the benefits of cloud gaming is the ability to play any of the supported games over the internet rather than having to install them on a single device. That means your progress can carry over with you regardless of what platform you’re playing on. Start playing a game on a console at home and continue playing anywhere on the go from your mobile device, without losing a beat.

The plan is to launch xCloud this holiday season on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with more than 100 games supported at launch. Of course, anyone who wants to access this neat new feature would have to have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. If the Xbox Cloud Gaming feature fascinates you and you want to be able to use this feature, you are able to purchase Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $15 a month.

Not every single game is available via Xbox Cloud Gaming, but Microsoft makes it really easy to tell directly from your console. Once the service is released on consoles, any game with a little cloud icon next to it in the Game Pass library will be eligible for Cloud Gaming.

We all know how much of a pain downloading games can be, especially if you don’t have great internet. And as games continue to grow in size, space starts to become an issue. Moving to an all-digital gaming future has its drawbacks, but xCloud can help with that. No more downloading, and storage is no longer an issue. This is a huge moment in the gaming industry and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
