Madden 22: When is the Week 1, 53-man roster update coming?
Madden 22 officially launched on August 20, but those of you looking to play Franchise mode may want to hold off from starting one just yet. And not only because the improved Player Scouting feature hasn’t been implemented (although that’s a very good reason to wait as well).
If you want the most up-to-date rosters when playing Franchise mode in Madden 22, you’ll want to at least wait until the Week 1 roster update. This comes after the teams have made their final cuts, so it’s the most accurate we’ll get to the finalized 53-man rosters — although weekly updates tweak overall ratings and such throughout the season.
When is the NFL’s 53-man roster cut deadline?
This year, the NFL shortened the preseason to four weeks, or three games per team. This weekend is the final week of preseason, with the last game scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 29.
All 32 teams then have until August 31 to trim their roster to 53 players. These will be the rosters that are reflected in the Week 1 Roster update for Madden 22.
When is the Week 1 Roster Update releasing for Madden 22?

Because the Week 1 roster update is the largest of the year — with hundreds of changes included — it takes a little longer. EA is typically pretty quick about getting it out though and usually we have it by the start of the actual NFL season.
Last year, EA released the Week 1 Roster update for Madden 21 on September 10, hours before the Thursday Night kickoff game. The final roster cut deadline was on September 1, so it took about 9 days for EA to make all the changes and release the update.
Week 1 of the NFL season begins on Thursday, September 9 with an evening game between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With about the same amount of time in between the roster cuts and the season kickoff, I believe we’ll have the Week 1 Roster update by the start of this year’s season as well.
