Free Xbox Games with Gold for August 2021 revealed
July is really the month that Xbox stepped it up in terms of new games. The release of Microsoft Flight Simulator and The Ascent on Xbox Series X|S really marks the start of a busy second half of 2021.
If you’re an Xbox Games with Gold member, you’ll have even more to play. Microsoft revealed August’s lineup of free Games with Gold and, as per usual, four games will be up for grabs.
Darksiders III will be available for the entirety of the month of August. Released in 2018, this is the third entry in the action role-playing series, blending gameplay elements from the first two games with those from Metroidvania games and the Souls series. In this game, you play as Fury, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, on a quest to capture the Seven Deadly Sins.
On the complete opposite end of the gaming spectrum is Yooka-Laylee, free for Gold members from August 16 to September 15. A spiritual successor to the N64’s Banjo-Kazooie series, Yooka-Laylee (developed by Playtonic Games) is an open-world platformer in which players explore beautiful worlds, solve puzzles and collect items as the buddy duo Yooka, a male chameleon, and Laylee, a female bat. It’s bright, it’s color, it’s adventurous, it’s the complete opposite in tone of Darksiders III, or this next game.

Lost Planet 3, which was originally released for Xbox 360, will be free from August 1 to August 15. A prequel to the previous entries in the franchise, Lost Planet 3 follow Jim Peyton as he uncovers the hidden truths of E.D.N. III.
The fourth and final game for Xbox Games with Gold is Garou: Mark of the Wolves, the final entry of the classic Fatal Fury series. The game features the T.O.P. fighting system, and a defense and counter mechanic. Garou: MotW will be available from August 16 to August 31.
