Statistically speaking, the Los Angeles Rams has the best defensive unit in the NFL last season. A big part of that was the play of guys like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, both of whom were confirmed to be in Madden 22‘s 99 Club.

Ramsey was confirmed to have a 99 overall rating in this year’s game. He joins fellow teammate Aaron Donald and becomes the fourth player to be revealed for the prestigious group, which marks the highest possible rating a player can have in Madden.

Ramsey begins Madden 22 with a 99 overall rating 99s across nearly all coverage ratings, including Awareness (99), Play Recognition (99), Man Coverage (99), Zone Coverage (99) and Press (99).

Ramsey has long been considered one of the best cornerbacks although last year he was only rated a 94 overall. Instead, it was Patriots’ cornerback Stephon Gilmore who was the top-rated player at the position with a 99 overall. Ramsey’s stellar play last year coupled with the drop off in Gilmore’s production has led to Ramsey taking the crown as best cornerback in the league — or at least in Madden 22.

Of course, Ramsey’s reveal as a member of the 99 Club isn’t without debate. There’s a vocal group of fans arguing that Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander should be rated 99 instead and, if not, should at least be the second best-rated cornerback in the game. There’s also a case to be made for Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard.

While those players may deserve high ratings, I think Jalen Ramsey has certainly earned his spot in Madden 22’s 99 Club. He’s a true shutdown corner that isn’t afraid to smack you in the mouth on the field. And that’s not just my opinion, that’s what other NFL analysts are saying.

What’s interesting is the Rams now have two defensive player rated 99 overall in Madden 22. That’s going to be a formidable defense to go up against. And now with Matthew Stafford at quarterback, their offense could finally get them over the hump.

Here’s a look at who is currently in the 99 Club at launch:

For as deserving as Ramsey is of the 99 overall rating, it appears I overlooked him in my predictions for Madden 22. I’m now three for four in predicting this year’s 99 Club. It appears there will only be five players with a 99 overall, and you have to figure Patrick Mahomes will be one of them. Who else do you think will make the list?
