Tom Clancy’s XDefiant: How to get into August’s Closed Play Test
This week, Ubisoft surprised us with the reveal of Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, a free-to-play competitive FPS that blends various elements from the publisher’s library of games. The game doesn’t yet have a release date, but Ubisoft is looking to get feedback early. The first Play Test is scheduled for next month on August 5.
If you’re interested in participating in the closed Play Test, you’ll have to register. You can do so on the XDefiant website and it’s a pretty straightforward process. You’ve got to log in with your Ubisoft account and select the platform you want to participate in the play tests for. It should be noted that although you can select any platform, the first Play Test is only scheduled for PC. It will also only be available for players in the United States and Canada.
You’ll then have to answer two quick questions. The first is what your favorite genre of video games is. The second, which is optional, is if you play games on PC.
The second question might have to do with the fact that the first Play Test is only available on PC. However, additional tests are planned for this winter, suggesting XDefiant won’t actually launch until sometime next year.
XDefiant will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Luna and Ubisoft Connect. Full crossplay support is expected at launch.

As for the game itself, XDefiant is a fast-paced arena shooter combines intense, realistic gunplay with personalized classes (represented in the game as Factions). Each Faction has a role and comes equipped with traits, abilities and an Ultra for you to personalize your gameplay.
These Factions are actually inspired by the maverick groups you’ve probably come across in other Tom Clancy games. The Cleaners, for example, are from Tom Clancy’s The Division. In XDefiant, they are an “assault” class with characters that Ubisoft has created specifically for this shooter.
In addition to your Faction, you’ll be able to customize your weapon loadout, including primary and secondary weapons, attachments and a device.
